each year. Many different facilities are available to the traveller
at Cardiff International Airport, from bars, cafes, restaurants
and shops to amusement areas for the kids. Banking facilities,
including foreign exchange services, car hire operators, and
both short and long stay car parks are available for general
use for a wide range of people. You can easily access the airport
by public transport, as there are both bus and train routes to
the airport. Cardiff is located at Rhoose, which is 12 miles
south-west of the Cardiff city centre. It provides easy car parking
facilities and swift check-in procedures. The airport offers
fast and convenient access to Europe and the World.

Outside the Terminal there is a postbox on the pavement as well
as a 24-hour automatic deposit machine in the entranceway. At the
first floor information desk airport staff are available to help

you in finding local hotel accommodation and surface transport
connections. The Bank and Bureau de Change is a full banking and
currency exchange service that is open for all departures and all
scheduled inbound flights. On this floor travel and holiday insurance
can also be purchased and landing fees can be paid.
Developments
In 1986 Cardiff International Airport extended the runway by 750
feet, which cost the region £1 million. But it was worth
it. The airport then attracted more business with new generation
jet aircraft. New transatlantic links were made, with charter
flights to Florida in addition to links to Canada that were already
established. The new runway extension enabled the airport to
handle 747 jumbo jets, which brought the British Airways Maintenance
facility to Cardiff International Airport. This added to Cardiff’s
airport facilities such as airport parking, shops, and restaurants.
Several major expansion projects to heighten the capacity of
the Terminal Building began in early 1993. The project re-developed
the landside forecourt area, expanded and modernised the International
Departures Lounge, as well as changed roadway access to the Terminal
with a new security access point. In August 1994, the Airport
hit the 1 million passenger mark for the first time ever.
